Skiing and Snowboarding - non-walking activities

If you would like to give other winter sports a try there is plenty to do in the Aravis Mountains in winter!

learn to ski The most obvious winter sports are skiing and snowboarding, both of which you can try at the Aravis Lodge. Whether you are a beginner skier or an advanced snowboarder there are ski slopes for every level in the resorts - from beginner slopes to advanced off piste.

Enjoy snowboarding There are ski schools within the villages, which all employ english speaking instructors. We have skis and snowboard equipment for hire in our on-site ski room and we can organise you a lift pass for the 220km of ski piste too - so there really is no reason not to try skiing or snowboarding this winter!

If you don't want to learn to ski or snowboard you could visit the swimming pool at La Clusaz which offers an incredible indoor/outdoor mix of pools, allowing you to swim outside and appreciate the stunning view across the ski slopes of La Clusaz.

There is also the opportunity to go ice skating, enjoy a ride on a horse and sleigh, take a tandem paragliding flight or just browse the shops and enjoy the atmosphere of a bustling ski resort in winter. Contact us for prices, availability or more information or visit our dedicated short break skiing site.

City Days Out

Annecy old town If city breaks are more your thing you could visit the medieval town of Annecy which is only half an hour away by bus, which conveniently runs from just outside our Aravis Lodge. You can easily spend a day exploring this beautiful old city, enjoying a beer in a pavement cafe or visiting musuems which are housed in the historic chateau and old prison.

Annecy market stall On sundays there is an enourmous street market in Annecy, crammed with stalls selling everything from regional cheese, vegetables and olives to second hand clothing and antiques.

Geneva is another city well suited for a day trip from the Lodge as it's just one hour away. The city is very cosmopolitan and offers a lot in the way of expensive jewellery and little boutique shops - paradise for any shopping fans! There is also the lakeside to enjoy which has plenty of places to stop for coffee along the way. It is also fun to prolong your winter mountain holiday by spending an extra night in Geneva either at the beginning or end of your break.

The Aravis Lodge

If you would rather stay in the Lodge for a relaxing day off there is still plenty to keep you amused. Choose from the TV room with SKY, read a book in the sunny lounge, enjoy a beer on the sun terrace or take advantage of the gym and sauna. You can also explore St Jean or go to one of the local village markets on certain days.
